DEFENDERS OF THE SKY- THE STORY OF THE AIRFIELD

Tuesday 11th November, 2014 – UK based Woodcut Media has secured its latest order from A+E Networks UK® for a new documentary series Defenders of the Sky – The Story of the Airfield (working title).

Currently in production and scheduled for delivery early 2015, Defenders of the Sky – The Story of the Airfield (10 x 60), is hosted by TV presenter and military history enthusiast Jules Hudson (Escape to the Country, Britain’s Heritage Heroes, Dive WWII – Our Secret History). The series will air in the UK on H2®.

Defenders of the Sky follows Jules as he crisscrosses the UK to discover the hidden stories of airfields throughout Britain. On this experiential journey, Jules gets hands on with history interviewing experts who guide him through pivotal moments of each airfield. Gripping wartime stories from WW1, WW2 and the Falklands, spectacular aviation inventions and daring comradeship drive the narrative of every programme resulting in a compelling account of the importance of these airfields in UK and world history.

Defenders of the Sky – The Story of the Airfield is executive produced by Woodcut Media’s Kate Beal. The series was ordered by Rachel Job, Director of Programming, HISTORY® and H2.

“This exciting new series combines our viewers’ passion for our recent past with a fascination for British aviation and engineering prowess,” said Rachel Job, Director of Programming, HISTORY and H2. “It also demonstrates our growing commitment to UK originated content on H2 and our increasing ambitions for the channel.”

“We believe this documentary series will fascinate viewers,” said Kate Beal, CEO & Joint Creative Director, Woodcut Media. “It will reveal startling gems and, up until now, little known facts about UK airbases, home to the Brits, Americans and Commonwealth air forces, and the very pilots that played an integral role nationally and internationally. The presenter Jules Hudson, will fly a plane involved in a dog fight, parachute RAF style and attend glider training school – a true feast for any history and military enthusiast.”

The series will be distributed internationally by Flame Distribution.
