WOODCUT MEDIA UNLOCKS LATEST COMMISSION FOR A+E NETWORKS® UK – HOLLOWAY: WOMEN BEHIND BARS

One Hour Special To Premiere On Crime + Investigation® (CI) In the UK this Summer

London, 31 March 2016 – UK based Woodcut Media has been commissioned by A+E Networks UK to produce a new exclusive one-off special Holloway: Women Behind Bars, which takes an in-depth look at one of Europe’s largest female jails which is due to close in Summer 2016.

Currently in production and to be presented to buyers worldwide at the upcoming MIPTV by Keshet International, Holloway: Women Behind Bars is scheduled to broadcast in the UK this Summer on A+E Networks UK’s channel Crime + Investigation (CI).

Holloway: Women Behind Bars (1×60 minutes), follows the UK’s leading criminologist, Professor David Wilson (Broadmoor: A History of the Criminally Insane, Measuring Evil) as he investigates the story behind HM Prison Holloway, from its beginnings 165 years ago. Wilson recounts the criminal history of its most infamous and prolific female inmates, including:

  • Notorious Victorian killers Amelia Sach and Annie Walters;

  • Political prisoners Emmeline Pankhurst and Diana Mitford;

  • Cold-blooded 20th century killers Myra Hindley and Rose West;

  • Some of the UK’s most despised women of modern times, including Maxine Carr and Vanessa George.

Koulla Anastasi, Programming Director for Crime + Investigation (CI) said: “The closure of Holloway prison marks a significant moment in UK criminal history. We wanted to commemorate the occasion with a special commission that offers CI viewers a fascinating insight into Britain’s most famous women’s jail.”

Using archive, reconstruction and expert views, the documentary delves into the history of Holloway, from its origins as a mixed prison for petty criminals for men, women and children, and how it has transformed over time.

Jinal Patel, Executive Producer for Woodcut Media said: “Professor Wilson’s prolific reputation in criminology means no stone will be left unturned when it comes to unearthing some of the most riveting facts and stories behind the legendary Holloway prison. We are thrilled with our latest commission from A+E Networks UK, and look forward to it debuting on Crime + Investigation – the perfect platform for such a programme.”

Over the years, Woodcut Media has built a reputation as one of the leading producers of the crime genre within the UK, with documentaries such as Broadmoor: A History of the Criminally Insane, Frankie Fraser’s Last Stand and long-running series Fred Dinenage: Murder Casebook (for Crime + Investigation) as well as The Krays: The Prison Years (for The Discovery Channel).
